For the scene above, imagine that you are the visitor on the left and the staff member is your listener. Use the visible locations to decide which place expression fits each prompt.

1. Pattern Practice

Choose one place word for each situation: ここ, そこ, あそこ, こちら, そちら, or あちら.

  1. The restroom is beside you.
  2. The elevator is beside the listener.
  3. The cafeteria is at the far end of the building.
  4. You want to point politely to the reception desk across the lobby.

2. Use the Grammar

Write a complete Japanese question or answer for each prompt.

  1. Ask politely where the elevator is.
  2. Say that the copier is on the second floor.
  3. Ask where the bookstore is, using どこ.
  4. Reply that the bookstore is over there.

3. Speak or Write

Imagine you are at a school reception desk. Write a three-line conversation in which a visitor asks for a place and receives directions. Use one question with どちら and one polite place word such as こちら or あちら.
